Artist's Comments

In the past couple of months, I've gotten a few requests for showing how I do my cel-shading technique, so I thought I'd give it a shot and make a short tutorial on how I do it.

As stated in the tutorial, mine is ONE WAY to do this. My qualifier for my technique is that I can work fast, control the image as much as I need to, and that I'm able to get it done quickly, which means I can make money on it if it's a paying job. It's not all about the money, of course, but making hyper complex PhotoShop files just proves you can make hyper complex PhotoShop files. Simple is smart, THAT truth will never change.

Hope this is, um, errr...educational!

Note: because of the size, this one will work best if you download it to view.

This is great, though I think I still have a ways to go before I can visualize shadows well enough to attempt cel-shading.
Thanks for taking the time to make this tutorial!

I think you have a pretty good idea about shading already. True, this is more of a hard line commitment to an edge, which some artists don't like, but if it makes your drawings look the way you want, you'll figure it out.

Thanks! I always hope good design comes through, even if I don't sound like I know what I'm talking about!

augh!! Its so time consuming!! I don't know how you even get the volume of work done as you do! It boggles my mind.

Oh please. I don't color as anally as some artists, and it boggles MY mind how they get ANYTHING done. Practice and repetition make it all go faster and faster.

I can't sit at the computer for more than 2 hours because of eyestrain and headaches, so perhaps that's my downfall.
