Description
This week's REMAKE/REMODEL art challenge at the Warren Ellis WHITECHAPEL forums: The Woman With A Black Heart.
Ellis had nearly zero info on this character; she was a female adventurer, loved danger and had a black heart tattooed on her forehead. Ellis kept this wide open, challenging us to go for broke with this limited description. I decided to see what would happen with a very literal take on the name. This one was a little different for me, and a little more complex and dark, hence the "Mature" tag on it.
Here's my description:
"Stephanie Higgins, a University of Mississippi sophomore, is targeted for violence by a radical white supremacist group when they discover that the heart she received in a heart transplant at 12 was donated by an African American family in Chicago whose teen-aged daughter was killed in an automobile accident. To protect herself and her family, she destroys her previous identity and reappears as "Fanny", a tough, hard young woman whose heart shaped tattoo above her surgery scar serves to honor the girl she never met whose gift allowed her to live. But it also serves as a target for bigoted, racist enemies."
(Just to be perfectly clear: I don't think Nazis, racial hatred or white supremacists are good or funny. They are the worst kind of evil $@#&%. Period. That's why I'm showing MY girl beating the crap out of one of them with a Louisville slugger.)
