Another REMAKE/REMODEL challenge from the Warren Ellis WHITECHAPEL forums. This week: The Spider Queen. The description: "Briefest character description ever, from a wiki squib on this public domain comics character from 1941:
Sharon Kane is the sworn enemy of all criminals. Her specially designed bracelets eject spider webbing. Her boyfriend is a detective named Mike O'Bell."
OK. Not much to go on, but that's OK, because it means we can go crazy, which is what I did:
"Ladies and Gentlemen, PLUSH NYC is proud to present, in her first major club appearance, The Fierce and Fabulous Spider Queen. Kenny Kane and Mike O'Bell are proud to debut this fabulous arachnid diva who's been burning up the Chelsea club circuit runways and wowing New York's discriminating gay club community with her song stylings and deadly moves. Now you can see first hand how she weaves her web of dance and danger for the weekend crowd, with PLUSH NYC head DJ Lady Atsuko in the booth, spinning an all-night stream of sleazy, dirty electro-house and disco for your clubbing pleasure!"
C'mon, it's the Spider QUEEN. It just seemed so obvious... Ripped off my own poster design elements from my "B.P.M." project.

This is a remake of an old character from the 30's called the Spider Queen, a very lame female crime fighter/super-hero who had bracelets that could shoot webs. The point of these exercises (especially for the characters with very little background, like this one) is to take what is given to us and run with it. Since the initial character was SO boring, I just took the name and went from there, going as opposite to a super-hero as I could, but making her as interesting a character as I could. Ellis always tells us to just go for "interesting" above "respectful".
Great drawing, sir--interesting interpetation.
Or something like that...
I'm confused just a little, is this a pre-exsisting character or an original one?
