This week's NEO PULP REMAKE/REMODEL from Warren Ellis. INSTRUCTIONS:
THE GREEN HORNET looks like it's going to do okay at the cinema. You have the rights to THE SHADOW.
(black slouch hat, red scarf, long black coat or cape, black suit, two matched .45 automatic handguns, fire opal ring on one finger, fought crime, could "cloud men's minds", laughed creepily while gunning bastards down, read around, you'll find all the stuff)
So you're going to create a one-sheet showing your conception of the character, in order to sell it to a studio.
This is Hollyweird, in 2011. You're thinking: why does the Shadow have to be a man? Why does the Shadow even have to be white? Why does it have to be a cape? It just has to be the essence of "strange person who learned weird fighting techniques from Tibetan spooks before returning to America to fill criminals with bullets, spookily."
So what you're drawing or photographing is your conception of The Shadow for film, as a fake movie poster or a character sheet.
That's it. You have one week. Begin.
Wanted to have this one be type driven, with the illustration really emerging from the very solid type forms. My back story is that this Shadow can actually travel through the shadows and appear anywhere a shadow falls. Kind of an interdimensional doorway, so to speak.

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men.... well, it's probably the person who bullet in those same hearts. Very nice rendition. I haven't seen anything pertaining to the Shadow in a long time.
I think my favourite part of this is the tagline. It's really snappy. But I'm totally digging her outfit too. Man, I'd so watch this movie; we could use more superhero movies with a badass woman as the main characters.
Hot! as always I really really enjoy what you do with typography in general. That reminds me, you should check out my friends in Angelspit's new video, it uses typography in a really interesting way I haven't seen in many videos! [link]
That was incredibly cool, really well done. I just finished up a bunch of work for your buddies in Defence Mechanism, including a short comic of their adventures, and a design for a big prop for their live show. As soon as they let me, I want to show everyone!
Thanks!
