REMAKE: Doctor Who by PaulSizer REMAKE: Doctor Who by PaulSizer
Here's this week's REMAKE challenge from Warren Ellis:

"A Time Lord can regenerate twelve times before dying. Thirteen incarnations in all.

Design the thirteenth incarnation of the Doctor.

You may additionally redesign the DOCTOR WHO logo, the TARDIS and other elements of the property should you so wish.

No pen-portraits. This is ART ONLY. Posting just a bunch of text, or a scribble and a vast number of words, will get the thread closed and your account banned.

NO MORE PHOTO-MANIPULATION "art". I'll just delete them. People have been drenching recent threads with several pieces at a time that they've knocked out in photoshop in 2 minutes with no thought at all. I consider this to be taking the piss.

I will allow original photography.

No more than ONE submission by any one person in any one REMAKE/REMODEL.

You have one week.

Begin."

Let me start by saying that while I loosely know about Doctor Who, I am not an expert of the series, and know just the basic details. That being said, I wanted to question EVERYTHING and start my re-make from the ground up.

This may be utter Who blasphemy, but the question that first came to mind was: "Why does the Doctor have to be a man? Or just a straight man? Or just a straight white English man?"
So I decided to play with that, and well, here you go... Sci-fi and Genderbending; a winning combination.

Also decided to establish that the TARDIS glitch has been partially fixed; now instead of a police box, it looks like a concrete kiosk.
So, what do you think? Am I banished to Hell for daring to mess with the Doctor?

Kidding; my version isn't for everyone. Your response is valid. Thanks for posting.

Yes that is utter blasphemy and you are indeed bannished to hell. The real Doctor is an alien and has no romantic feelings towards humans. That is call crap put in the new series by hack writers not fit to kiss the boots of the writers of the classic Dr Who of the 60s and 70s (as well as fucking up classic monsters like the Silurians). The Doctor cannot change sex (though woudn't put it past them to try in the new series).

pffft ignore that guy. The only thing that might get you banished to hell is changing the tardis. Female Doctor is fine and some people do want that though it may come across transphobic if not handled with care (doctor identifies as a man, if he suddenly identifies as a women because of how he looks what is that saying to people?)

Anyway New series and audios have both established that time lords have the ability to regenerate into other sexes so it's possible for it to happen.

I'm a fan of the whole 50 year run of the show and it's spin off's and your Doctor design is nice, Just don't mess with the Tardis haha. Doctor3uk is giving us whovians a bad name.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. Although, in this drawing, the concrete column with all the postings on it is meant to be the TARDIS. We have them on campus near my house, and some of them have doors on them (figuring that they are access ports to the sewer or heating systems of the buildings nearby), so I extrapolated from there.
So wave to me while I burn, I guess… ; )

haha well you'll only burn slightly. It's a nice idea for the Tardis of other renegade time lords though. Those things are not broken so they actually blend into the environment haha

Also, it's been suggested many times (most notably with the 10th and 11th Doctors) that even though he usually leans toward the ladies, he may occasionally have romantic feelings towards men and is not at all uncomfortable with the idea.

Yeah 11 and 8 imply this pretty heavily and 2 and Jamie are very clingy with each other. The Doctor is largely asexual really but I think if we have to classify him then bi/pan romantic grey-asexual is the best fit

Eh. No reason in particular. This version kinda screams, "I'm about to die, I might as well have fun doing it." Because the thing with the Doctor is that while how he/she looks might not necessarily be how he/she feels, the looks DO have a basis in how he/she feels. And it's usually a facade to hide the truth. The Eleventh Doctor, for instance, has many boyish mannerisms, enjoys games and toys, and has everything in his TARDIS look new to perhaps hide the fact that he constantly, CONSTANTLY feels old and is well aware of how old he really is. Your Doctor appears to be trying to fit as much experience into her last years as she can, with a new chic look and a sleek K-9 to hide just how run-down she feels.

It's good artwork, and as you say you are not an expert. I on the other hand am pretty close even though I am American.(grew up with classic series on PBS, screw the purple dinosaur, I had a scarf and tin dog. :blahblah: ) My theory as to why the Doctor chooses to be white males is an unfortunate, but true reality about the past, women and folks of an ethnic backround were never treated well, so as a white male he is able to navigate Earth history without much fuss or bigotry from the O' so "perfect" human race :fart: ....Although the TARDIS's chameleon circuit has seen better days, the Doctor would never choose to change his beloved Blue Box. which is my only pet peave. now I believe that this fine looking errr' lady, not really sure...could be...anyhoo, this "lady" seems more like an incarnation of The Rani, another renegade Timelord and enemy of the Doctor.

Quick question: Is your Doctor female or a cross-dressing dude? It's fine either way, I just really can't tell from here.

Anyhoo, I still like it very much. Also yes, K-9 has definitely been needing an upgrade.

But yes, good point. Really, the only thing that needs to remain consistent between all the Doctors is that they are very intelligent, have a habit of traveling, and tend to do a little saving the universe on the side. They also share the same memories, but that's really about it.

Well...arguably, he does not have to be straight, heck there were quite a few moments in classic who which caused one to wonder. Thou really his being straight has more to do with the time period in which it was filmed than anything else.
As for the continued male regeneration, if we get into the books, its sort of works in the way that while yes he keeps changing his face and his personality he still has that pesky Time Lord equivalent of a Y chromosome.
The White and British...well that is usually considered a personal choice of the Doctors, thou it has also been said that a Gallifreyan accent sound British and is just a coincidence.

All that being said, this really is brilliant, and something about the flying K-9 contrasting with the boom box makes me smile.

And in answer to your question, it has been a long-running idea that the Doctor could become a woman, and several black people were suggested for the role of the Eleventh Doctor. Plus I consider the Doctor to be about as anything-sexual as a ten-year-old child. <3

"I just snogged Madame de Pompadour!" *grin*

You know, it is delightfully blasphemuous, sinfully perverse, and deliciously different. The companion would be Jack Harness, and oh the shenaningans that would insure...
I hoped when the doctor was rumored to be played for a black actor. But this , sire, would satisfy me for the moment.
Oh yes, evil laughter please.

I am always gonna pray this happens in the show. ALWAYS. I know one of the original creators of the show at one point in the 80's recommended the idea, apparently, so I'm in good company there. And the press mucked around with the idea a lot last year.

I'm loving the feather boa. And the jacket! Fabulous.

Heh. The whole point of most of Ellis' REMAKE challenges is to throw a spanner in the works, so most of the remakes for this one have had a dose of irreverence in them, in the spirit of making it more exciting creatively, rather than treading on well-worn ground.

Thanks for the good words!

O sweet, painful, glorious blasphemy. It's terrifying, from the perspective of a Dr. Who fan, and yet awesome, because it doubtlessly terrifies so many of the more hardcore fans and will doubtlessly get some of the knickers in a twist––not in a fun way. As much as it is indeed twisted and heretical, I must go with sci-fi and genderbending FTW.

I got that vibe to it. You clearly didn't set out to offend. And since it's, at the core, a sci-fi fandom, it needs shaking up now and then with new ideas; however, given the size and rabid loyalty of much of the fandom, sometimes the shaking is hard to do. I hope your ideas stick around, because they are nifty, a little hilarious, and also quite cool, for all that much of the classic "traditional" structure is considerably warped.
