This week's REMAKE/REMODEL from Warren Ellis' WHITECHAPEL forums. Here's the brief:
"Here's what you know.
A "doctor" with a funny foreign name performs a "procedure" on a skinny geek which turns said skinny person into a "super-soldier." It is decided that no-one must know who this person is, and so they are given to the US Army under the name "Captain America."
Possibly you weren't paying full attention when this was being explained to you. Possibly you have a drinking problem. And those headaches have been getting worse. Also, as the person who looks just like you and follows you around all day has commented, your poop has turned grey.
NONETHELESS. You must take what you heard and turn it into a character design.
You have one week."
The trick with this one was to react more to what he didn't say about the Captain America origin; no mention of nationality, race, or gender. No mention of World War 2, Nazis, nothing.
I fell into my initial tweak for all remakes; switch the gender.
I imagined young Stevie Robinson, skinny, geeky high school girl, president of the anime club, registers for the Armed Forces and fits a physical profile to participate in the "Super Soldier" program. After her transformation, she has a densely enhancile filled body, and is then asked to relinquish her public identity to become a "true soldier".
A full face tattoo completes her transformation into Captain America.
