3 PANELS 'The Poster' by PaulSizer 3 PANELS 'The Poster' by PaulSizer
Warren Ellis has been running a feature on his blog recently called "3 PANELS", where he requests 3 panels of work, in any format, in any style and on any subject matter from select artists.

Here's mine, that he posted today. "THE POSTER".
Could this be the start of a new book for me? Maybe, maybe...

This link is to my 3 PANELS entry, but Ellis' blog is well worth putting on your feed, although it is often filled with the sacred and the very profane, but always smart.

At this point, it is a "by invitation only" thing, which is why I was so flabbergasted to get the request from Warren.

Well you pulled it off with flair, I really love your three panels (more than all the rest he has up there, and I'm a fan of some of the others too)

Thanks. It was really a good exercise for me too; I had to balance out the "Oh man, what do I do that's good enough?" with a sense that I just needed to go for it, and take a quick idea and run with it, trusting my gut and hitting with all due speed. So in truth, I didn't really know how it would turn out, but the excitement of that helped keep me on task.

As I said, I also chose the direction to take advantage of two directions I felt pretty confident about, so that helped. I knew this would get some nice exposure through his posting, so I wanted to bring my A-game on all fronts, which hopefully I did.

I like the use of intentionally distorted perspective.

I don't know if it was "intentionally" distorted; it just ended up that way near the periphery!

Yeah, this one is the reason I signed up on the site. I sometimes need to be kicked in the head and reminded that coasting isn't good enough, right?

It's really interesting to me how in 3 panels, you've managed to give us a character that's more interesting than some that have had series devoted them. I'll add my vote to the "I'd love to see more about this one" category. Good design as always, but an extra dose of pat on the back for the perspective shot in panel 3, very effective, and just darn good to look at.

Yessir.

You don't go about giving an Eisner Award worthly upskirt like that and don't deliver.

You have all our attention.

Do your work.

YUSH

You totally should! A home-grown powerless superhero is not only very appealing character, it makes multiple narrative layers for itself (political agenda and expression, the limits of anonymity [would her artistic style give her away? would she remain secret from her friends? etc], channeling of parent figures)- it practically writes itself!
